James Harney Wigle
James “Jim” Harney Wigle, 69, passed away peacefully at home on his birthday, February 8th, 2016. Better known as Wags to family and friends, he was born and raised in Pacific Palisades, California. Jim attended the University of California Los Angeles, obtaining a bachelor’s degree in Political Science followed by a law degree, also at UCLA. Jim moved to Scottsdale, AZ with his young family in 1981 to work as in-house legal counsel for Garrett Aerospace (later Allied-Signal) and retired from CSK Automotive in 2008.
An avid model-railroader all his life, Jim housed 900 square feet of HO-gauge model railroads in his home, modeled after the 1950s Los Angeles of his childhood. Wags spent the majority of his retirement refining the layout for his model railroad and perfecting every detail. It was truly a labor of love and a continual work in progress. His model railroad is admired by family, friends and neighborhood kids alike.
Jim loved to read spy-thriller novels, and was the life of the party without even getting out of this seat. He had a laugh so loud that as a young adult, it caused his mother to shut up all the windows and exclaim, “What will the neighbors think!”
Wags loved his family in his own unique and special way. Not one to make fuss, or expect anyone to make a fuss over him.
He supported his daughters in all their endeavors and adventures, including attending “that school across town,” University of Southern California. He was most excited to become a grandfather in just a few months.
