HAVERHILL – James Edward Sullivan, 94, passed peacefully on Monday, June 20, 2022. He was born in his beloved Haverhill, MA (at home in ‘the acre’) on February 7, 1928. The son of the late Florence Sullivan and Annie Josephine Fitzgerald. He is survived by “the love of my life” Mary Catherine Sullivan, his wife of 65 years.

Jim was a veteran of the Korean War. He served as a Sargent in active duty in the United States Army.

Jim was “Mr. Fix-it.” He enjoyed working on bicycles and repairing small engines. He even took to refurbishing wheelchairs at the nursing home where Mary worked. If he didn’t have the tool to fix it, he would make one. Jim had his fair share of Irish ingenuity and practicality. He was the proprietor of Minute Man Cycles in Chelmsford, MA where he resided for over 40 years.

After his retirement, Jim enjoyed the winters in Port Charlotte, Florida and summers in the house he built on the Cape in Dennis, MA. He kept busy as a realtor working Dodd Real Estate on Cape Cod.

Jim was a devoted Grandfather. Always quick with a song or tune on his ukulele to calm a fussy child. He was no pushover by any means, always ready to call “baloney” in their teenage years.

Jim spent his final few years or so of his life at Penacook Place in Haverhill where the staff attentivity cared for him never failing to mention what a lovely man he was.

He was predeceased by his sister Helen F. Sullivan, of Haverhill, MA. He leaves behind his two children Mark J. Sullivan and wife Melissa of Groveland, MA and Catherine A. Kobrick and husband Chris of Chicago, IL; his five grandchildren Matthew J. Sullivan, of Groveland, MA, William P. Sullivan of Charleston, SC, Andrew T. Sullivan of Groveland, MA, Amanda and Jessica Kobrick of Chicago, IL.
