James Patrick Griswold, 65, of Lafayette, passed over in to the loving arms of his son, Joseph Patrick Griswold, Saturday, October 23, 2021 at his home surrounded by his loved ones.
He was born May 22, 1956, at Home Hospital in Lafayette, to the late James Leroy and Patricia Ann (Lyman) Griswold.
James was a graduate of Lafayette Jefferson High School and worked as a Forklift Driver for Tate and Lyle for 20 years. On June 8, 1995, he married Carol Sue Hampton in Lafayette and she survives.
He was an avid Purdue and Colts fan and enjoyed riding his motorcycle and fishing. His favorite rides were to Sturgis with his son, Joey, and his trip with Carol to Dragon’s Tail. He loved making people laugh and was a jokester. He cherished every moment spent with family and friends, his family and friends meant everything to him and he especially loved to watch his children and grandchildren play sports. Family events were also special to him.
Along with his wife, Carol, he is survived by their 2 children, Jasmine and Brice Griswold, both at home, as well as, James “George” (Leighane) Freeman, Justin (Courtney) Freeman, Melissa (Brad) Freeman-Fletcher, all of Lafayette, Darren (Jana) Hampton of FL, Mark Freeman, Jamie Mekos, Kelly Mekos, Marc Mekos, all of Lafayette; 6 siblings, Debra Horn of CO, Pam (Jed) Cruea of Dayton, Debra Crawford of Greenfield, Becky Stubbs of CO, Jeff (Laura) Young of West Lafayette; brother-in-Law, James (Sherry) Gregory of West Lafayette; sisters-in-law, Barbara (Steve) Critser, and Sandy (Terry) Helterban, all of Lafayette; 7 grandchildren, Austin, Brenden, Lauren, Joey, Kenzie, Wyatt, & Alessandra; Nieces & Nephews, Matt (Christina) Horn of Colorado, Zachary Griswold of North Carolina, Shiloh Cruea of Lafayette, Treena Horn and Jerica Cruea of Lafayette, and Tonya Good of Indianapolis; his brother from another mother, Mitch “Fat Boy” Williams; his dog, Tanner “Shit head”; many beloved cousins; and Aunt Clara (Ancil) Ruppe.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, James Leroy and Patricia Ann Griswold; son, Joseph Patrick Griswold; and brother, Richard Warren Griswold.
Casual dress is requested.
