James Livingston McAuley, age 86, of Bloomington, Indiana, passed away September 9, 2017, at the IU Health Bloomington Hospital.

He was born on January, 16, 1931, in Bloomington, Indiana, the son of John and Nellie Opal (Livingston) McAuley. Jim graduated from Bloomington High School, Cum Laude, was in the National Honor Society and on the Varsity wrestling team. He received a Bachelors degree in Education from Indiana University — putting himself through school by the ROTC program and attaining the rank of Second Lieutenant.

Upon graduating from college Jim married Esther Ruth Payne on June 2nd, 1953 in Bloomington, Indiana.

His work life started in electronics at Sarkes Tarzian and later joined Otis Elevator as an Industrial Engineer — staying there for 30 years. Later he became a licensed Realtor and Broker.
When not in church at New Prospect Baptist (and later Sherwood Oaks Christian) or work, he maintained his own cars and home, enjoyed John Wayne movies and spending time with a devoted wife and family. And while running was never his forte, he participated in various races, including the Chicago Marathon and the Cincinnati Mini-Marathon. Jim was a warm and intelligent man who will be remembered for his strong work ethic, dependable nature and clear devotion to family and God.

Jim is survived by his wife, Esther (Payne) McAuley of Bloomington; his daughter, Terri McAuley of Bloomington, and son, Michael McAuley of Indianapolis; one granddaughter, Lisa (Records) Borrero and grandson-in-law, Ferdinand Borrero; and two great-granddaughters, Lula and Iris Borrero.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother Robert McAuley, and one sister Clara Mae Peck.
