James A. “Jim” Howard, age 79, Christy Creek Road, Morehead, passed away Sunday, September 2, 2018, at his home.

Born April 9, 1939, in Sandy Hook, he was a son of the late Randolph and Hazel Adkins Howard. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Randy Gale Howard.

Jim is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mary Elizabeth Stevens Howard, whom he married September 27, 1958; his son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Ashley Howard Morehead; and two grandchildren, Boone and Scout Howard.

Other survivors include three brothers, Dale Howard and Tim Howard, both of Sandy Hook, and Billy Wayne Howard of Kenova, West Virginia; one sister, Karen Ann Ison of Sandy Hook; one aunt, Mattie Redwine of Sandy Hook; several nieces and nephews; extended family and friends. A special thanks to caregivers Shelia Hamilton and Carol Riddle.

Jim was an equipment operator for Mountain Enterprise (formerly Ruth Paving) for 28 years and enjoyed hunting, trading guns, and working in his yard and around the house. He was of the Baptist faith.
