Jim Garner, 66, of Ringgold, GA, went to see the Lord he loved so dearly on April 23, 2016, a result of a tragic motorcycle accident. Jim’s life is a testament of the transforming power of God’s Grace. He had a huge heart, and he was loved by many, far and wide.
Jim was a Rossville “Bulldog,” having graduated in the class of 1967. He subsequently graduated from UTC in 1972 with a BS in Industrial Engineering. At UTC he was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha and had remained active in the Lambda Chi Alumni Association. He loved riding his Harley.
Jim was Owner/President of Infrared Research Inc which he and his Daddy founded in 1982.
An insulin dependent diabetic for almost 60 years, Jim was a recipient of the Certificate of Honor from the Joslin Diabetes Center in Boston, MA. His family is grateful that he no longer needs insulin and wishes to express thanks for the exemplary care given to Jim for many years by Dr David Huffman and his staff.
A great “Garner celebration” is going on in Heaven, where Jim was greeted by those who have gone before: Daddy, Joe Garner; Mama, Peggy Garner; Brother and Sister-in-law, Jerry & Ann Garner, Grandson, Aiden Martin, grandparents, aunts and uncles. Most of all, Jim is celebrating seeing his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He always loved a good party!
Left to somehow go on without him are Jim’s wife, Rita Garner; daughters, Leigh Garner Martin (Butch), Lisa Barnes Childress (Rocky); sisters, Pamper Garner Crangle (Tommy) and Kim Garner Combs; grandchildren Ava Rhea Martin, Dax Martin, Chloe and Bradley Childress; nephews Jeff Garner (Traci); Jacob Garner (Lori) and Tyler Howell (Lindsey); niece Kati Schmidt (Bill), several grandnephews and a grandniece.
