Born on May 22, 1944, in Great Falls to George and Ella Hirose, Jim was a lifelong resident of Great Falls. He graduated from Great Falls High School in 1962, enlisting in the U.S. Marine Corp in 1961. He married his high school sweetheart Cheryl on June 14, 1964. This union blessed them with two sons, whom he adored: Dustin Hirose and Darin Hirose.
Jim had his own drywall business and joined the Great Falls Fire Department in 1967. Through the Fire Dept. he attended the College of Great Falls and the U.S. Fire Academy in Maryland. Jim progressed through the ranks in the Fire Department and retired as Fire Chief in 2001 after 34 years of service. He was an active man, enjoying hunting, fishing, ice fishing, scuba diving, archery, rafting, fly fishing and golf.
Jim is survived by his loving wife, Cheryl; sons, Dustin (Toni) Hirose of Missoula, and Darin (Andrea) Hirose of Great Falls; grandson, Danny; granddaughter, Kylie; step brother Joe Sakay of Sun River; sister, Nancy Kelly of Kentucky.
