James J. Kusek, 80, of Mesa, Arizona, and Peru, Illinois, died at 8:46 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 14, in Banner Baywood Medical Center in Mesa. Mr. Kusek was born on Aug. 28, 1929, LaSalle to Andrew and Helen (Guzior) Kusek.

He married Maxine M. Donatt on October 16, 1948, at St. Joseph Church in Peru. He was a Navy Veteran of Korea serving for 4 years aboard the DE 699 USS Marsh, and the LSD-22 Fort Marion. He then served for 4 years in the Naval Reserves. He was a graduate of Coyne Electrical School in Chicago and worked as an industrial electrician. He was a partner in Quad City Electric, Inc. in Peru. He was a 59-year member of IBEW and a lifetime member of the American Legion, the VFW, and a member of the Destroyer Escort Sailors Association.

He is survived by his wife, Maxine, of Mesa; one daughter, Tara Messersmith, of Peoria, Illinois; one son Karl (Patricia) Kusek, of LaSalle and 5 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, James Jay Kusek; one brother, and one sister.
