James J. Gormley, Jr., 70, of Upton, died Monday, October 26, 2015 at his home after a battle with lung cancer. He was the husband of Mary Ann (Popec) Gormley, who died in 2011 after 39 years of marriage.

Mr. Gormley was born in Boston, a son of the late James and Helen (Jordan) Gormley. He grew up in Quincy and was a U S Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War. A graduate of Wentworth Institute of Technology, Framingham State, and Worcester State; he had a nearly two decade career at Hewlett Packard and then made the transition into a second career as a high school science teacher. He retired from teaching at Attleboro High School in 2010. A resident of Upton for nearly 40 years and a communicant of St. Gabriel the Archangel Parish, he loved to fish and spend as much time as possible with his beloved grandchildren.

He leaves three children, Colleen Gormley and her husband Andrew McIntyre of Upton, Sean Gormley of Blackstone, and Shannon Clark and her husband Todd of Grafton; three brothers, Raymond Gormley of VA, Robert Gormley of Thailand, and Edward Gormley of Kingston; and three grandchildren, Ayden, Evalyn, and Emersynn Clark. He was also the brother of the late Karen Lynsky and Kevin Gormley.
