James J. Colburn, 84, of Cogan Station went home to be with his Lord Wednesday, July 22, 2009 at the Williamsport Home where he had been a resident for the last two months.
Jim and his wife, the former Joann Hardenburg, would have observed their 55th wedding anniversary on July 24, 2009.
Jim had been employed by Avco now Textron Lycoming and then by Sandvik Steel Co. where he had positions in PA, Michigan and N.J. He returned to Williamsport in 1973 where he started Colburn Industrial Supply Co. which he retired from in 1991.
Jim graduated from Jamestown High School, Jamestown, NY, class of 1943. At age 17 he joined the Navy and served at Bainbridge, MD during World War II. He also graduated from the former Williamsport Area Community College, now Penn College and attended Business Colleges while living in Michigan.
Jim was a member of Faith Alliance Church where he was very active until his illness. He served as an Elder, Head Trustee and Chairman of the Building Committee when a new church was built on Bottle Run Road.
Jim was a member of Gideon’s of Williamsport. He particularly enjoyed helping to distribute Bibles at the schools and at Penn State University. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, reading and stamp collecting.
Born May 11, 1925 in Jamestown, he was the son of Malcom F. and Blanche Anderson Colburn.
Surviving in addition to his wife are daughters, Paula (Danny) Tomczewski of Masontown, WV, Betsy Eck of Montoursville and her fiance Clay Fahringer and Judith (Gene) Altier of Williamsport; sister, Mary Lou Colburn of Muncy; seven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren and another one expected in Sept.; one step grandson and several nieces and nephews.
Jim was predeceased by a brother Frederick Colburn.
