James J. Bonesteel, 72 West Sand Lake James J. Bonesteel, 72, of Breigle Lane, died Friday at St. Peter’s Hospital Albany, after a brief illness. Born in Troy, he was son of the late James W. and Margaret E. Daniels Bonesteel. He had resided 11 years in Troy, most of his life in West Sand Lake and was a 1947 graduate of La Salle Institute in North Greenbush receiving his letter in both football and baseball and later a football scholarship. Mr. Bonesteel owned and operated Bonesteel’s Furniture for over thirty years in West Sand Lake. He served the town well. He was a life-long member and an exempt fireman of the West Sand Lake Volunteer Fire Company. Mr. Bonesteel was instrumental in founding of the Sand Lake Ambulance. He was town assessor for many years. He was an Army veteran serving as a Jump Master with the 503rd Airborne Division. His service included assignments with the Army Ski Patrol where he attained the rank of sergeant.
