James’ Story

James Hunter was born in Hanford, California in February, 1954 and was welcomed into the Gardner family, becoming brother to Frank, Juanita and Larry. James spent his formative years in Riverside (Rubidoux) and Palm Springs, graduating from Palm Springs High School. He continued his education at College of the Desert, Cal State Long Beach and Cal Poly Pomona, majoring in Industrial Arts and Engineering all the while working in several restaurants.

When his mom (Mama Magnolia) opened a board and care home for disabled adults, James helped her to run the business for many years, even while king full-time at the County of Riverside, and the City of Rialto.

James was also a single-hearted person, always giving an honest assessment of any situation, not changing up from one person to the next and keeping his word in all instances. He was hard-working and unpretentious, treating all the same.

James’ character was exemplified in his being chosen as Employee of the Quarter several times while working for the City of Rialto.

James was known for being quiet, reserved and thoughtful – always willing to listen and be of help. He was also known to be a peacemaker and helped to de-escalate many confrontations.

James enjoyed being a dad – His patience was legendary, having spent countless hours teaching his girls to skate, ride bikes, then eventually to drive.

James enjoyed gardening, listening to music, good food (especially German Chocolate Cake), and quiet time.

He leaves to mourn his memory his wife of 34 years Teresa, daughters Therese, Bernadette and son-in-law Joey, sister Juanita, brothers Frank, Joe and Larry, brothers-in law Columbus, Tony, Martin, Pat and Bernard and sister-in-law Ruby and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He blessed all who knew him…
