Mr. James Hugh Porterfield, 87, passed away on September 16, 2021 at Hock Family Pavilion.
Mr. Porterfield was born May 2, 1934 in Durham, N. C. to Nulen and Fannie Porterfield and who precedes him in death.
Mr. Porterfield proudly served as a cook in the U.S. Army. He was a machinist at Liggett & Meyers Tobacco Company prior to retirement. He was a sports fan, especially Duke basketball. James never met a stranger and was a hard worker even on his days off work. He loved his family dearly and was always willing to open his home to whomever needed it.
In addition to his parents, James is preceded in death by brothers, Jonah, Sonny and Frank Porterfield; sisters Marjorie Cash, Bernice Porterfield and Reba Carrigan; brother-in-law, Jessie Blake.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mozelle Jackson Porterfield; son; Tim Porterfield (Carol); daughter, Jamie Porterfield; sisters, Gerald Blake and Virginia Blake (Jimmy); grandchildren, Timmy Porterfield, Michael Porterfield, Ian Farmer, Caden Porterfield, Kara Farmer, Amber Farmer Rogers (Zach), Alexis Farmer; great grandchildren, Jaxon Beck and Brian Beck.
