James was born September 10, 1932 at Troy, Michigan the son of James H. and Mary E. (Lewis) Hicks. He attended school in Troy and then enlisted and served in the U.S. Navy.
Jim was an avid motorcyclist who rode motorcycles well into his seventies and was an auto racing fan. As a young boy he ran whiskey which let to his hot rodding days, where his love of auto racing and working on a pit crew led him to a career as a parts man in the automotive industry. He move to Norfolk twenty years ago to be closer to his family.
Jim is survived by his daughter, Karen (Dennis) Johnson of Norfolk, son James (Nanciana) Hicks Hamicksburg of Lincoln, one sister Marianne Vennstrom of Lake Orion, MI, 9 grandchildren, Joshua Chadwick, Richard Chadwick, Courtney Johnson, Tracy Johnson, Kayla Johnson, Michael Hamicksburg, Tziporah Hamicksburg, Illyana Hamicksburg, Dahlia Hamicksburg, and 7 great grandchildren.
