James “Jim” Hefti, age 80, of Algona passed away on Friday, February 19, 2021 at MercyOne North Iowa Hospice in Mason City. James Allen Hefti, the son of Edwin and Mary Irene (Daggy) Hefti, was born on July 11, 1940 on the family farm in rural LuVerne. Jim graduated from LuVerne High School in 1958. Upon graduation, he moved to Chicago and attended airline school where he worked at O’Hare International Airport. He later returned to the family farm raising crops, cattle and hogs. Jim worked for Hormel in Algona as a mechanic for 28 years where he served as the union president. He established Blue Chip Auction and Moving Company as well as acquired his CDL license which took him on many cross country adventures. On June 4, 1960, Jim married his high school sweetheart, Sharol Wittmeier at Zion Lutheran Church in LuVerne. To this union, the couple had five children. Jim had many joys in life, most important was his family. He loved attending his children’s and grandchildren’s many activities. He and Sharol loved to square dance. Many times Jim would do his farm chores, work at Hormel, do farm chores again and would still take Sharol dancing after. In his spare time, Jim enjoyed wood carving and woodworking. In his earlier years, Jim taught Sunday school and was on many church committees for Zion Lutheran Church in LuVerne. He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Algona. He was a very faithful man and had a strong faith in the Lord. Left to cherish Jim’s memory are his wife of 60 years, Sharol of Algona; children, Deanne (Joseph) Jacob of Puxico, Missouri, Lynne Hefti of Mason City, Shari Nolte of Mason City, Shane (Taunya) Hefti of Dows and Nichole (Matthew) Hardy of Mason City; 15 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Mary Irene; sister, Janice Taylor; and son-in-law, Bruce Nolte.
