James Hayden McCarty, Sr., age 72, of Morehead, KY, passed away Monday, November 15, 2010, at his residence.
Born February 20, 1938, in Morgan County, KY, he was the son of the late James E. McCarty and Nancy Ellen McKenzie McCarty. He was also preceded in death by two half brothers, Dallas Francis McCarty and William Douglas (PeeWee) McCarty.
Jim is survived by his wife, Etta Jane Caudill McCarty, whom he wed November 23, 1978; three sons, James H. McCarty Jr. of Flatwoods, KY, Billy Jay McCarty of Columbus, OH, Michael Todd McCarty of Green Bank, WV; two daughters, Kathleen -Kathy- Adams of Ashland, KY, and Suzzana -Suzie- Furnish of Flatwoods, KY; one stepson, L. Scott Cassity of Knoxville, TN; 14 grandchildren; and 4 great grandchildren.
Other survivors include his stepmother, Ida Estep McCarty of Albany, KY; four half brothers, Bruce H. McCarty of Burkesville, KY, Chester M. McCarty of Getaway, OH, James Edward McCarty Jr. of TN, David McCarty of Albany, KY; one half sister, Carol Sparks of Albany, KY; and other devoted family and friends.
Jim served his country 8 – years in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, was a former employee of AK Steel in Ashland, and survived the Great Alaska Earthquake in 1964.
