James Maddox
Maddox James Hancock
1948 – 2021
Jim’s greatest love was his family. He is survived by his children, Damon, Ramiro, and Liska Maddox; forever his wife, Barbara Regensberg Maddox; grandchildren, Shawn, Aydon, Mikayla, James, Madi, Dominic, and Grace Maddox; his brother, Mike Maddox (Pam), daughters-in-law, Jennifer and Karlie Maddox; nephew, Matthew Maddox (partner, Christopher Ruldoph); niece, Amanda Shaw (Phil and little Maxine); as well as many Maddox and Dial cousins, Regensberg primos and his loyal companion, Tonka Dog. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Maxine Maddox.
Jim grew up in San Juan County and graduated from Farmington High School. He moved to Albuquerque and graduated from the University of New Mexico. For a short time, Jim was a professional wrestling promoter. He became a real estate broker in 1975 and established Maddox & Co. Realtors. He served as President of the Greater Albuquerque Association of REALTORS, and of the New Mexico Association of REALTORS. Both groups recognized Jim’s leadership in the profession by naming him their REALTOR of the Year and recipient of the Doyle Pargin Award. Jim was on the Board of Directors of the National Association of REALTORS. He served as New Mexico Federal political coordinator for Senator Martin Heinrich and for Mayor Tim Keller’s Urban Design Review Team. He also served on many other local, state and national political committees. He was passionate about such community projects as Historic Preservation and Economic Development in EDO, and Huning’s Highland Neighborhood. Jim served as a Commissioner on the Landmarks and Urban Conservation Commission.
He loved to spend time with his family and friends in Albuquerque, Guadalupita, Baltimore, Mazatlan, and Cd Juárez. The loss of his earthly presence will be felt by many.
