James H. Wilson, Jr., age 88, of Salem died at 12:05 a.m. Friday, December 19, 2014 at the Sterling House of Salem after a long illness. He was born June 17, 1926 in Salem the son of the late James H. Wilson, Sr. and Laura (Mulford) Wilson. He graduated from Vermont Academy, Saxtons River, Vermont in 1944 and served in the Pacific Theater with the 77th Infantry Division of the United States Army from 1944 to 1946 and was in the Battle of Okinawa and the Allied occupation of Japan during World War II. After returning from the war he attended Babson Institute, Wellesley, Massachusetts graduating in 1948. He was married to Nancy Morrison of Wellesley, Massachusetts on September 18, 1948, who preceded him in death on August 12, 1990. Mr. Wilson joined his father in the operation of the Salem Tool Company, a firm manufacturing coal mining tools and machinery and served as president from 1967 until his retirement. In addition, he served on the boards of The First National Bank, Society National Bank, Grandview Cemetery and the Salem Country Club. He is survived by his three children, Susan Wilson Starbuck and her husband, Gary of Yarmouth, Maine, Kenneth M. Wilson and his wife, Marsha Knuth Wilson of Salem, and Wendy J. Wilson of Plano, Texas; his four grandchildren, Rebecca Starbuck Pierce and her husband, Michael of Atlanta, Georgia, Chad J. Wilson and his wife, Martha McKinney of Machesney Park, Illinois, James K. Wilson of Cleveland and Stephen H. Wilson of Columbus; his five great-grandchildren, J. Michael and Jed Pierce and Kenneth, Sara and William Wilson; his sister, Barbara Wilson McCorkhill of Beloit and several nieces and nephews.
