James H. Meyer (Jim the mailman)
Troy – James H. Meyer (Jim the mailman) died peacefully Tuesday, August 25th at St. Mary’s Hospital after a long battle with complications due to diabetes.
Mr. Meyer was a life long resident of Troy and worked as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in the Albia area of Troy for 31 years retiring in 1986.
A very patriotic man, he served in the Navy during the Korean War and was a (life member) of the Rev. F. A. Kelley Disabled American Veterans and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a member of the American Legion Post 1489 Wynantskill and the National Letter Carriers Association and was a sharpshooter instructor. In his earlier years, he was proud to be a Boy Scout leader and was an active member of the Auxiliary Police through the Rensselaer County Sheriff’s Department.
Mr. Meyer leaves his wife of 54 years Lynn (Marilyn Rosekrans) and his two daughters and their families: Kim & Khalil Melhem of Bradford, MA and their daughters Heather and Kristen; and Sharen & Joel Holcomb of Troy and their daughter Emily. He is also survived by his brothers, George Meyer of Winter Haven, FL and J. William (Bill) Meyer and his wife Marilyn of Wynantskill, and several nephews and nieces. Mr Meyer is predeceased by his brother, Ernest H. Meyer, Jr. and his sister, Beverly J. Witkowski.
