     The Reverend James H. Helton, 82, servant of the Most High God, breathed his final breath on earth and was ushered to his grand homecoming in Glory on Tuesday, November 1, 2011, in Lakeland, FL. He was born February 25, 1929, in Barron Fork, Kentucky, the son of George James and Mary Lou (Jones) Helton. He later lived in Harlen, KY, then Whitley City, KY, prior to coming to Muncie in 1952.

     Dr. Helton was a veteran of the Navy and the Army.

     He was saved during a great revival and began his ministry at the age of twenty-two. For nearly sixty years, he faithfully served as evangelist and pastor. 

     Surviving are his wife, Betty (Ross) Helton, to whom he had been married sixty-four years; eight children, Julia Jones, (husband, Ronald), Muncie, Allen Helton, Lakeland, FL, George James Helton, (wife, Kathleen), Muncie, Mary Linda Fierce, (husband, Robert), Lakeland, FL, Rev. David Helton, (wife, Kerri), Fishers, Jenny Locke, (husband, Ron), Muncie, Mark Helton, (wife, Tina), Muncie, and Rebekah Crago, (husband, Tony), Tulsa, OK; seventeen grandchildren; twenty-one great grandchildren; his brother, Rev. Denny Helton, (wife, Wanda), Muncie; three sisters, Clara Alene Shingleton, Fayrene Hornback, (husband, Clark), and Shirley J. Neely, all of Muncie; and several nieces and nephews.

     He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Steven and Paul Helton; and his sister, Wanda Maxine Helton.
