Friends and relatives in Fleming and Mason counties are saddened to hear of the death of James Highland Booton Jr. of Norfolk, Virginia. “Jim”, as he was known, died of a massive coronary while at his work on Monday September 8, 2014.
He was born in Mason County on February 10, 1945 to the late James H. and Mary Christina Emmons Booton. His mother, a resident of Flemingsburg, survives.
As a small child Jim went with his parents to live in New Market, Indiana where he attended school, graduating in 1963. As a student he was participated in both basketball and baseball and graduated with honors from New Market High School. In the fall of that same year, he entered Purdue University to earn a degree and worked several years for Westinghouse. Later worked Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburg Pennsylvania.
In his later years of his employment he was an administrative assistant with Union Mission Ministries in Norfolk, VA. helping to provide shelter, food and necessities for those less fortunate in that area. His family finds some comfort knowing that he died doing the job that he dearly loved. Co – worker, William Crawley remembers Jim as a dearly beloved part of their staff and that he would be sorely missed.
In addition to his mother Jim leaves serveral cousins, aunts and uncles living in Fleming & Mason Counties. Many people in this area may remember his grandparents Wall & Annie Highland Booton and Leslie & Bessie Picket Fleming Emmons
