He died at 8:35 a.m. Sunday, March 29, 2009, in St. Vincent Hospice, Indianapolis.
Born Oct. 20, 1956, in Logansport, he was the son of James H. Sr. and Nancy Shambarger Birnell. He was married Nov. 4, 1977, in Logansport, to MareiAnn Hoagland, who survives.
Jim retired in 2007 from Chrysler Corporation in Kokomo. A 1975 graduate of Lewis Cass High School, he enjoyed all sports especially the St. Louis Cardinals and IU. He enjoyed collecting sports memorabilia but especially enjoyed his grandchildren.
Jim was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and a member of the Logansport American Legion.
