Ninety-three-year-old, James G. Lennox had a good long life! James was born to James D. Lennox and Nora S. (Williams) Lennox on August 11, 1928, in Florence, Colorado. His parents, sister Shirley Johnson, brother William, wives Marion (Mattice) and Kathy (Ord), stepsons David and Joe Ord, and longtime friends Mitzi Hershel, Leona Hill, and more welcomed James home on Friday, November 26, 2021.

James was feisty and he was a handful. His family and friends wouldn’t have had his life any other way. As a child James jumped on a train intending to ride from Florence to Cañon City, unfortunately when the train went by the family home on 1st Street in Florence, his grandma Williams saw him, and he jumped off the train and hid in weeds until he could sneak home to try and avoid the reckoning that awaited him. James also told the story about walking to Cañon where a neighbor found him and took him back home. James often told stories about growing up in Florence, Colorado, which included donkeys left by the miners in the area, a pet Magpie, and adventures at Fawn Hollow in its heyday. James was blessed with rich experiences, a love of simple things and life, and family and friends who loved him for the person he was.

James joined the Merchant Marines at age 17. James told of traveling through waters still infested with mines just after WWII. James went to work for the phone company after the Merchant Marines and became a lineman.

James was a good man. As a lineman, he rescued a child when a heavy tank fell over on him. James was devoted to his family and friends throughout his life. James taught his family the values of hard work, dedication, honesty, and loyalty. James was fun-loving and liked his beer. He and his brothers watched over their niece Nancy Johnson as she grew from an infant to an adult. Fishing poles had reason to fear James, and it was typical for James to drive all night to return early from vacations. In his senior years, James cared for a colony of feral cats orphaned by the death of a neighbor. James’s burly voice hid the huge heart of the man.

James is survived by his brother, John D. Lennox; his four children, Janet, James (Susana), Jeff (Janet DeRosa), and Jackie (Roy) Williams; his stepchildren, Debbie (Tyler) Allen and Donald Ord; daughters-in-law, Arita (Joe) and Linda (David) Ord; grandchildren, Adam, Eric (Rachel), and Michelle (Brad Yates) Alexander, Matthew (Krystal), Andrew (Stacie), Nathanael (Natalie) Ellis, Corey (Anna), Megan, and Justin Lennox, Katie, Troy, and Amy Ord, Dameion and Jeremie Hartson, and Korina Claar (Hartson); as well as twenty-six great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and nephews, and close friends.
