James R. “Jim” Gordert, 81 of Midland and owner of Midland Heating and Air Conditioning passed away at the MidMichigan Medical Center with his wife by his side on Sunday February 09, 2014.

The son of the late Frank and Esther (Fountain) Gordert was born in Detroit on January 1, 1933. Jim owned Metropolitan Heating and Air Conditioning in Metamora, Mi and later in Detroit. In 1968 Jim moved to Midland and later changed the business to Midland Heating and Air Conditioning until his retirement in 2013.Jim served in the US Coast Guard from 1952 – 1956. On July 19, 1986 he married the former Maude “Marty” Van Horn in Midland. He was a member of the Elk’s Lodge #1610 and was an avid hunter, bowler, softball player and coach.

Jim is survived by his wife Marty: his children Teri Dorion, Dawn (Dave) Dryer, Dick (Jennifer) Gordert, Tim (Liz) Gordert, Eric (Sherry) Gordert and Bill (Brenda) Gordert; stepchildren Howard Van Horn, Gregg Van Horn, Barbara Van Horn. Jim will be missed by 20 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and 6 great great grandchildren, brother, Robert Gordert, and sisters, Mary Lou Gordert, Rosemary (Rich) Moss, and Kathi Gordert Mitchell, and the mother of his children Joanne. In addition to his parents Jim was predeceased by his brother Francis Gordert and sister, Marie Stark Gordert.
