James Ginther was born and raised in Des Moines, IA and was a proud graduate of Southeast Polk High School. Jim had a long career, first as a laborer in the Laborers’ Union, where he was the youngest foreman to head a crew working on 801 Grand, the tallest building in Des Moines. Next Jim proudly worked as a Pipefitter in the Plumbers and Steamfitters Union, Local 33. Jim traveled and worked on many jobs and large projects, the Comanche Power plant in Pueblo, CO included. His final job was as the Handyman and Caretaker at a little lodge in Green Mountain Falls, CO where he found peace and enjoyed the beautiful and serene surroundings. Preceding him in death were grandparents Patricia and Carl Berglund, Gigi, his father Jerry Ginther, and sister Michelle Ginther.
Jim is survived by his love, Lisa Zymbaluk, of Divide, Colorado. Other cherished family members include his mother, Carlene Elwood of Des Moines, Shane Ginther (Kayla and Kasen Horton Krengel) of Des Moines, Shannon McVey (Cole McVey; Hailey Meyer, Spencer McVey, Monti and Caedon Clausi) of Bouton, IA; Christopher Ginther (Haylie) of Des Moines; and the many friends he made along the way.
With a heart as big as his smile, Jim laughed and charmed his way through life. He always had a story to brighten your day, or a word of encouragement to lift you up. Wisdom that Jim passed along to those he knew includes: Love fiercely, Give to others recklessly and generously, Take care of the Earth and Her critters, Stand up for what’s right, Be honest, Spend time with your Maker, and Eat the Ice Cream First!
