Mr. James Franklin Coltrane was born on July, 13, 1945 in Randolph County, North Carolina to the late Howard Coltrane, Sr. and Nina Belo Coltrane. Following thirty-eight years of declining health, he departed this earthly life on Tuesday morning, August 16, 2011 at Westchester Manor at Providence Place in High Point.
James attended the local public school s in Randolph County. At an early age he went to live with his “Uncle Bill” in Hartford, CT. He returned to NC in the year 1971 and was employed by Pilot Trucking Co. until an accident left him no longer able to work. James was a member of Refuge Baptist Church prior to becoming a member of New Bethel Baptist Church. James, better known as “BUB” had an amazing personality and quite gentle spirit. He was devoted to his family and loved fishing. He was a friend to everyone he met.
Additionally to his parents, two sisters, Margaret Coltrane Siler Still and Etta Mae Coltrane Cole; a brother, Howard Coltrane, Jr. preceded him in death.
The remembrance of shared moments bring comfort and peace to those who survive including: a very special son, Phillip Dwayne Hull of Hartford, CT.; three sisters, Emma Coltrane Davis, Cathleen Coltrane (Leroy) Gyant, Rev. Pearl Coltrane (Charles) Allen all of the Cedar Square Community; two brothers, Ervin (Consula) Coltrane of Philadelphia, PA, and Charles E. (Linda) Coltrane of the Cedar Square Community. There are several aunts and uncles, a host of nieces and nephews; a special friend, Raleigh Thigpen, Jr. “June Bug”.
Special thanks to the staff of Westchester Manor of Providence Place, Hospice, Dr. Orr and Nurse Mary Lue, special appreciation to Rev. and Mrs. John Mason, Tonya Simmons, Betty Baines, Iris Brown, Patty Bunting, Scott Bunting and Sandra Dunn. The family expresses thanks to their sister, Pearl Allen for the “special” care and love that she has given their brother James, (Her Boy).
