James F. Carroll, 90, of O’Fallon, IL, passed away on Wednesday, February 18, 2015 at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Belleville, IL. James was born on July 24, 1924 in Fall River, MA. He spent 24 years in the United States Air Force, retiring as a Master Sgt.; 17 years with the United States Postal Service, before retiring; and 26 years as a school crossing guard at the corner of Third and Lincoln in O’Fallon, IL. He was a member and an Eucharistic minister for St. Clare of Assisi Roman Catholic Church; a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 805, O’Fallon, IL; the O’Fallon Sportsman’s Club; and the National Letter Carriers Association. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Patrick & Mary Veronica Carroll, nee Moffett; sister, Helen Krol; brother, William Patrick Carroll; and niece, Joyce Ann Carroll.
He is survived by his wife, Theresa Carroll, nee Robitaille of O’Fallon, IL; 3 children, Michael James Carroll of O’Fallon, IL, Helen Frances Fritsch North of O’Fallon, IL, and David Walter (Mary) Carroll of Sorrento, IL; brother, Gerald (Frances) Carroll of Providence, RI; 7 grandchildren, Stephanie Walling, Elizabeth Carroll, Amanda Payne, Lana Fritsch, Nancy North, John North, and Michael D. Carroll; 4 great-grandchildren, Jordyn Payne, Jessica Payne, Grace Shovlin, and Cecilia Shovlin; and nephew, William Patrick Carroll.
