James O. Fisher age 90 of Midland died peacefully Saturday, May 25, 2013 at MidMichigan Stratford Village. The son of the late Ralph and Zelda (Johnston) Fisher was born on November 6, 1922 in Midland where he was raised and educated.
Jim graduated with a Civil Engineering Degree from Michigan State University after serving his country in World War II as a Captain in the Combat Engineers in Europe. On December 9, 1950 he married the former Geraldine Johnson in East Lansing. He was a registered Professional Engineer. Jim was President of Fisher Sand and Gravel in Midland and founded and owned several businesses with his two brothers; the three of whom were recently inducted into the Michigan Construction Hall of Fame as Distinguished Constructors. Jim was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Midland and contributed much to the community, serving eight years on the Bullock Creek School Board, four as its President, as well as serving as President of the Midland Country Club and on many Boards for local businesses and non-profit associations.
Jim is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jeri Fisher; sons John J. Fisher and the mother of their children Julie of Midland and J.W. “Bill” (Yvonne) Fisher of Midland and his daughter Ann Fisher of Avon Connecticut. Jim is also survived by his brothers Arthur “Bill” (Bette) Fisher of Midland, Ralph “Bud” (Virginia) Fisher Jr. of Mt. Pleasant and he was predeceased by sisters Mary Ellen Shepherd, Ruth McCollister and Nelly Jean Lanphar. Ten grandchildren also survive: Jackson Fisher, Hoback Fisher, Axel Fisher, J. D. Cheskaty, John W. Fisher, Samuel Ford Fisher, Hannah Marie Fisher, Claire Bonti, Jameson Bonti, and Reilly Curtis.
