James F. Sleno was born on June 14, 1932 in Easton Michigan to Albert and Helen (Moss) Sleno. He was a graduate of Chesaning High School, class of 1950. On October 10,1964 he married Anna Keeler of Maple Grove at St Casimir Catholic Church in Saginaw, MI. Together they were devoted members of St. Robert’s Catholic Church in Flushing, MI for 59-1/2 yrs.Jim was a lifelong farmer, starting at the early age of 9, driving tractors, planting, hoeing beans, and running the combine. He once said that his Dad left him to plant wheat at a young age and commented how much he straightened the rows. From that point forward he planted every acre. He was especially well known for his white beans around the whole area, and proud that he never lost a crop in all his years. He worked at Chevrolet Mfg, Oakley Hardware as a Case equipment set-up man, and at Fisher Body, Plant #1 as a semi-skilled gas welder and welder inspector for 30.5 yrs.Jim had an incredible memory for local history and people. Family members and friends will always remember his many stories. He was always a lover of Ann’s desserts, especially her pumpkin pie.Jim is survived by his wife Ann, his children Karen and Bill both of Flushing. His sisters Margaret (the late Neal) Saffer in Seattle, WA and Pat (Larry) Whalen of Waterford, MI, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by 2 infant daughters, Mary and Helen, his parents, and his sisters Marie and Irene and his favorite aunt, Ethel Moss.The family wishes to thank Living Joy Assisted Living Center and the team at Heart to Heart Hospice for the excellent care they gave him.
