James Francis Collins, 63 of Bayview Place, West Haven, died unexpectedly Dec. 16, 2006 at his home. Born in Ansonia April 27, 1943, he was the son of the late Joseph & Mildred McDermott Collins. He was a licensed clinical social worker, certified group psychotherapist and a Clinical Instructor in the Dept. of Psychiatry at the Yale School of Medicine. He was a noted practitioner and teacher of group psychotherapy. Before becoming a therapist, he taught science for 20 years on the high school and junior year level and taught Humanistic Education in the North Haven Public Schools. A consummate cook with an artistic flair who appreciated all things aesthetic and innovative, Jim was a leader without needing to be a star.
