Mr. James Edward Jones, 88, passed away February 8, 2014, following a brief illness. Mr. Jones was born on January 22, 1926, in Eclectic, AL, to Calvin and Lucy Burnette Jones.
He and Joyce Pate Carnes were married March 17, 1948. Mr. Jones worked at Bibb Mill, then many years at Wm. L Bonnell, before retiring from there. He also drove a Coweta County school bus before also retiring from that job. He’s well known as ‘The Volkswagen Man’, and it was a great passion and talent of his. Many people have sent their old VW’s through his workshop. He was an active member of Sylvan Lodge #429 in Sargent for many years. He and Mrs Jones have spent their retirement time between the home here and a home on Lake Martin in Alabama. In the last years, he was either faithfully at his shop daily, with his beloved dog, Cujo, or fishing from his boat with Cujo on Lake Martin.
Mr Jones was preceded in death by his parents, Calvin and Lucy Burnette Jones; Sisters Mary Jones Pagnella, CA; Dottie Jones Kyle, LA.
James Jones is survived by his wife, Joyce Pate Jones; son Richard Darrell (Connie Marchman) Jones, Newnan; Step-Son H. Danny (Shirley Cook) Carnes, Whitesburg, GA; Sister Margaret Jones Norton, Fayetteville, NC; Grandchildren Richard B. Jones (Tiffany Powell), Newnan; Tiffany Jones (J.R.) Tucker, Gainesvile, GA.; Kim Carnes Duke, and Kelvin Danny (Christa Horton) Carnes, Whitesburg, GA; Numerous great and g-g-grandchildren.
