James Edward “Hummer” Humerickhouse, 84, of Anderson, died peacefully August 20, 2017 following an extended illness.

He was born May 26, 1933 in Anderson, and graduated from Anderson High School. He then served in the United States Army during the Korean War from June 1953-May 1955. He then began working at Delco Remy in Anderson where he retired after 35 years of service. He was a life member of the VFW Post 266 and American Legion Post 127. He was also a member of Korean Vets, United Auto Workers Local 662 and Madison County Voiture 40 & 8.

He was very active within these organizations throughout the years, cooking weekly dinners and contributing to children’s Christmas parties. When he was able, he volunteered at “The Little Red Door” which benefits cancer patients. He enjoyed his trips to the coast and beaches of North Carolina where he loved the sun and fishing. Survivors include his daughter, Candace (Dennis) Wooten; siblings, Louise (Ronnie) Hudson, Terry Lee (Linda) Humerickhouse, Sue (Lee) Craig and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, John A. Humerickhouse; mother, Catherine L (Werking) Humerickhouse; siblings, Alfin “Bud” Humerickhouse, Larry Humerickhouse, Alice Gold, Laura Furney, Anna Mae Gustin, and Imogene Poole. Many, many thanks to the doctors, nurses, social workers, hospice and all other medical personel involved with his care. A very special thank you to his very dear and caring friends and family for their support.
