James Edward Baker, age 85, of Fairfield, beloved husband of Shirley Ellen (Coyle) Baker, passed away Tuesday, March 11, 2014, at St. Vincent’s Medical Center. Born in Bryn Mawr, PA, the son of the late Charles Lorenzo Baker and Alice May Maxim Baker, he had been a Fairfield resident for the last 35 years. He was a graduate of LaSalle College and served in the United States Navy at the end of World War II and during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Baker was the owner for 31 years of the Koenig Art Emporium in Darien.
He was a member of American Legion Post 143 and the Gaelic American Club in Fairfield. James was a very talented handyman, loved reading, but above all else, delighted in time spent with his family. Survivors in addition to his loving wife Shirley include three beloved daughters, Rochelle Baker, Alyson Baker Connole and her husband Brendan, and Sarah Elizabeth Baker; four cherished grandchildren, Shane Edward Baker, Shaun Daniel Baker, Ryan Michael Baker and McKayla Rose Mary Connole; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three sisters, Doris Schmidt, Charlotte Goerlich and Alice Kay Baker.
