James W. Edgecomb, 72, Three Oaks, Michigan, died peacefully on December 9 at his home surrounded by his family. His death comes after a long and courageous battle with multiple myeloma. Jim was born on December 30, 1936 in Cadillac, Michigan to Nellie and James Edgecomb. He enlisted in the US Army in 1954 at the age of 17 and quickly advanced to the rank of Sergeant. While in the Army Jim served as a track vehicle mechanic.
He was awarded a Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service and Sharpshooter (rifle). Jim was married to Janet Dennis of Cadillac for 54 years. During that time, they raised seven children. Jim retired after 30 years working as a truck driver. He was a skilled story teller who entertained family and friends with adventures from his trucking years. He loved to play practical jokes and had a beautiful singing voice. He enjoyed hunting and camping with family and was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan. Following his retirement, he fulfilled his lifelong dream of restoring antique cars. Jim and Janet enjoyed spending time together gardening and working on their yard.
In his later years, Jim was “found” by two cats, Miss Queenie and Patches, who brought laughter, comfort and love into his life as only cats can do.
