San Diego, California: Cmdr. James Edward Weaver, Jr., age 81, formerly of Coats, North Carolina, passed away on Saturday, January 2, 2021 at 9:10 a.m. in San Diego, California.
Mr. Weaver was born on April 14, 1939 in Coats, North Carolina in Harnett County to the late James Edward Weaver and Mildred Jernigan Weaver Council. He was preceded in death by his brother David Weaver, his sister, Linda Matthews, Dunn, NC; his brother William Mack Weaver, Sr., Dunn, NC: his sister Helen Marie Johnson, Dunn, NC; his sister June Bale Weaver, Dunn, NC; and his granddaughter Kaitlyn Weir, San Diego.
Mr. Weaver graduated with honors from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. He entered the United States Navy as an officer and graduated from United States Naval Destroyer School in June of 1968 and United States Army Command and General Staff College in July 1974.
During his stellar career in the United States Navy, Cmdr. Weaver worked in Intelligence Investigations, Operational Intelligence and served over 26 years as a United States Naval Commander.
He is survived by his loving wife, Joyce Weaver, his step sons Jason, Andrew and his wife Rachel, his daughter Jacqueline and his grandson Alexander James Weir, sisters Becky Norris of Coats, NC, and Elaine Lee and husband Pete of Winnabow, NC, and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Weaver was the light of our world and the foundation of our family. His brilliance and compassion knew no bounds.
