James E. Thompson, 74, Anderson, died April 30, 2007 at St. Johns Health System, Anderson Indiana after a brief illness. He was born January 3, 1933 in Huntington, Indiana, and resided in Anderson.
He moved to Anderson from Ft. Wayne in 1955, living here his entire adult life. Jim retired from Delco Remy Division of General Motors in 1992. He had a variety of assignments in product engineering, personnel and manufacturing, achieving the position of Works Manager responsibile for all manufacturing, Manufacturing Engineers and plants worldwide.
He was involved in reorganizing the division into units and served as Business Unit Director for Power Systems until his retirement. He was a graduate of Ft. Wayne South Side High School. He was also a graduate of Purdue University in 1955 with a Bachelors Degree from the School of Management. He earned an Honorary Masters Degree from M.I.T. He served his country proudly in the US Air Force and the Air National Guard. His unit was recalled during the Berlin Crisis in 1961. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church. He was a member of Lamda Chi Alpha fraternity, the Anderson Noon Rotary, the United Way, and Madison Way where he previously served as the chairman. He was a former board member for the Anderson Center for the Arts.
He was also a member of the John Purdue Club, President’s Council at Purdue University, P.M.O., and the Anderson Country Club where he served on the board.
He was also a member of the Tourist Club. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Marilyn Ann Crouse Thompson; four children, Steven E. Thompson & wife Heather of Carlsbad, California, Cynthia D. Ruby of Fishers, Rebecca A. Thompson of Anderson and Kimberly M. Keleher & husband Michael of Carmel; a brother, Duane Thompson & wife Margaret of Centerville, Ohio; a brother-in-law, James L. Crouse & wife Ruby of Columbus; eight grandchildren, Alex Thompson and Claire Thompson both of Carlsbad, California, Elizabeth Ruby, Kate Ruby and Amanda Ruby all of Fishers and Will Keleher, Ben Keleher and Adam Keleher all of Carmel; and five nieces and nephews, Michael Crouse, Cathleen Mathis and Sharon Pinch all of Colorado and David Thompson and Michael Thompson both of Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold E. & Marie Allen Thompson; his in-laws, Hazel Fahl & William H. Crouse; and a nephew, David Crouse.
A celebration of his life will be Friday, May 4, 2007 at 3:00 PM, at First Presbyterian Church, 230 West 9th Street, Anderson, with Rev. Rick Kimmer and Rev. Richard True officiating. A private burial will be in East Maplewood Cemetery, Anderson.
