James E. Mendenhall, 71, of South Bend, Indiana passed away at 2:50 p.m. Wednesday, November 18, 2020, in Memorial Hospital.  James was born on December 29, 1948 in South Bend, Indiana to Paul L. and Jane L. (Chambers) Mendenhall.  He retired 1998 from A.M. General, where he was employed for 25 years.  James is survived by his former wife, Linda L. Mendenhall; one daughter, Tracey Lynn Mendenhall; two sons, Keith Allen Mendenhall and James Edward Mendenhall, Jr.; five grandchildren, Zachary Robert Burkholder, Lyza Beth Mendenhall, Bryce Thomas Nowicki, Brinna Rose Mendenhall and Charlotte Lee Mendenhall; and two sisters, Marsha Martin of Indianapolis, Indiana and Diana (John) Botts of Elkhart, Indiana.  James was preceded in death by two brothers, Phil and Paul Mendenhall. He is also survived by his fiancée,  Eve and her son Kenneth. James was a former member of the Sunshine Club House.  He enjoyed walks and going to church.  He was always smiling and singing. James was always busy, loved to read the bible, and help needy people.  He was a Boy Scout and loved camping.  James also enjoyed  going fishing at Indiana Lake with his Dad. He enjoyed traveling and had been to many places, including Chicago, California, Florida, Washington D.C. and New York. He loved watching all sports, especially Notre Dame.  James was a season ticket holder for Notre Dame Basketball and had attended Chicago Bulls and Norte Dame football games. He had also been a parking attendant for Notre Dame football and basketball games. He was also coach and umpire for his children’s sports team. James loved animals.
