James Delaine Lewis of Falling Waters, WV went to be with the Lord on April 29, 2020 at his home after a short courageous battle with cancer. James was surrounded by his family and his wife of almost 60 years, Rona Jean Lewis (Hinkle). Born August 28, 1936 in Cumberland, MD he was the son of the late Ira P. Lewis and Bernice (Dullabaum) Lewis. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Kimberly Rene Perrell and husband, Jeffrey of Jefferson, Maryland, Karissa Leggett and fiancé, Chris Webber of Boonsboro, Maryland, two grandchildren, Tyler Lewis (Genna) of Boonsboro, Maryland, Lyndsey Perrell of West Palm Beach, Florida, and two great-grandchildren, Eila Lewis and Emma McDowell. James was preceded in death by his brothers, Gerald R. Lewis and sister-in-law Louise, Bernard R. Lewis and sister-in-law Wilma, and twin sister, Jeannette Nixon (Lewis) and brother-in-law Joe. Additionally, a brother-in-law Robert Lewis preceded him in death. He is survived by a sister, Esther G. Lewis (Robert) of Cumberland, Maryland and brother, Maurice Lewis and sister-in-law, Beverly, Severance, Colorado and multiple nieces and nephews.
James was born in Cumberland, Maryland and lived in the Cumberland and Oldtown areas of Maryland for most of his life. James was a 1955 graduate of Oldtown High School. James began his work life as a laborer in the construction industry and his career progression led him to a Superintendent role with various construction firms having worked on multiple road, bridge, and commercial buildings throughout his career. He retired in 2001 having completed his final project, the Days Inn, Shepherdstown, WV. Mr. Lewis was a member of and active in two local churches, Marlowe Assembly of God, Marlowe, WV and Virginia Avenue Church of God, Hagerstown, MD. James will always be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor and his love of his family. Some of his post-retirement activities included aiding his wife in her ministry to the widows of Virginia Avenue Church of God and projects at the Potomac Park Campgrounds including a large pavilion shelter ultimately named after him, a miniature golf course and numerous renovations of resident cottages.
