James Daniel Portis, a resident of the Walker Springs Community of Jackson, AL departed this life on Monday, February 11, 2019 while at Providence Hospital in Mobile, AL. Born March 19, 1935 to Willie Mae Portis, he was 83 years of age. He was educated in the Clarke County Public Schools and after graduating attended technical schooling. Serving as an aluminum plant inspector was how he made his living. Being in bands playing his saxophone and football brought him much joy.
Preceding him in death are his mother, Willie Mae Portis; step father, Mose Phillips; son, Roderick Portis; and three sisters, Beatrice Simon, Zilphia Williams, and Margaret Richardson.
Left to forever cherish his precious memories are three sons, Kenneth Portis, Mobile, AL, Karl (Stephanie) Portis, Chattanooga, TN, and Milton Williams, Jackson, AL; two daughters, Markita Poellnitz, Mobile, AL, and Peyton Bailey, Montgomery, AL; one sister, Lillian Lemon, New York, NY; ten grandchildren; twenty-two great grandchildren; a devoted niece, Ann (James) Todd; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
