James (“Jim”) D. Brown, age 69 of Sanford, died Sunday morning September 25, 2016 at MidMichigan Medical Center, Midland. The son of Leo J. and the late Aletta June (Wiggins) Brown was born in Midland on April 30, 1947 where he was raised and educated. Jim served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War.
He had been employed with The Dow Chemical Company until his retirement in 2001 after 31 years of service. He then went to work as a courier for MidMichigan Medical Center until 2016. Jim was very involved in the Pentecostal Church Ministry in Midland and served as Pastor in Clare and Standish, Michigan. He shared many stories with others about how proud he was of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He loved sports, especially Saginaw Spirit Hockey. He scored the ultimate winning goal on Sunday when he entered Heaven to be with Jesus.
Surviving is his precious wife of 24 years, Beverly, of whom he lovingly referred to as ‘BB.’ They were married on June 13, 1992. He also leaves his father, Leo Brown of Midland; sons, David L. Brown of Midland, Gregory E. (Deana) Jacobs of Hope; daughters, Andrea J. Brown of Burton, Naomi J. Lewis of Sanford, Angela M. Cole of Sanford; 13 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren with a 3rd expected March 2017; sisters, Jan (Paul) Salowitz of Coleman, Deborah (David) Nobbs of North Carolina, Tammy Brown of Midland; sister-in-law, Penny Brown of Fontana, California; many nieces and nephews. In addition to his mother, Jim was preceded in death by his brother, John Brown, and son-in-law, Edward Lewis. He will also be dearly missed by his beloved dog Cha-Cha and his neighbors who shared with him their love of God, Taco Tuesday, and good-natured ribbing of Jim’s loyalty for University of Michigan football and basketball.
