James Collins, Jr., 74, was called home to the Lord on October 21, 2020, at 12:15 pm. In his final moments, he passed away in peace at St. Lukes Cornwall Hospital in Newburgh, New York with the prayers and thoughts of his family and staff from Ability Beyond Disability, a residential living home in Beacon, New York where he lived for many years. “Junior,” as he was lovingly known, was one of seven children born to parents James Collins and Agnes Gadson.

He was born in Brooklyn, New York on June 20, 1946. Junior was industrious and friendly as a child. He would pack bags for customers at a local supermarket in Brooklyn and then use his earnings to buy candy, which he would share with his sister Maggie.

When Junior was four-years-old he was hit by a car which would ultimately lead to him needing full-time care. While away from the family physically, he was never far from their thoughts and love. He was well cared for by the staff at Ability Beyond Disability.

Junior is survived by his brother Roger Collins and his sister Maggie Marshall, and nieces and nephews Steven, Jr., Raheem, Corretta, David, Robert, Arion, Christine, Johnny, Robert, Lucy, Anthony, Malcolm, Jabbar, Elijah, Shaldya, Farad, Ramses, Mendes, Agninshalah, Jamell, Daheem, Shakira, and Raquel. His passing follows those of other siblings Freddy Collins, Janet Jones, Esther Dubose, and Steven Collins. The family would like to thank Junior’s nurse, Nancy, for her loving service and treating Junior so well.
