DURHAM- Mr. James Charles “Jake” Caddell, 88, passed away Friday, October 19, 2018 at Hillcrest Convalescent Center.
Mr. Caddell was born December 29, 1929 to the late William and Lena Caddell in Durham, NC. He retired from the North Carolina Army National Guard and Sperry Rand Corp. He had been a Reserve Deputy with the Durham County Sheriff’s Department. He was a member of Gorman Baptist Church. He resided in the Rose Hill Community at Kerr Lake for the past 25 years. Mr. Caddell served as chairman of the board of the Drewry Volunteer Fire Department for over ten years. He was affectionately referred to as “Lake Jake”. Mr. Caddell’s greatest joy was helping others and visiting with them on the porch.
Mr. Caddell is preceded in death by his parents, William and Lena Caddell; brother, William J. Caddell, Jr.; sisters, Voncille Caddell Taylor and Kay Caddell Grennier.
Mr. Caddell is survived by his wife, Ruth Hartis Caddell; son, James W. “Jim” Caddell (Cheryl); daughter, Cathy Caddell Smith of Traverse City, MI; grandchildren, James Kyle Caddell (Hope) of High Point, NC, Ernest P Driver, Jr. of Traverse City, MI; Jeffrey C. Driver of Humble, TX; great-grandchildren, Savannah and Naomi Driver.
