James Charles Durbin, passed away peacefully in his home July 3, 2019. He was 80 years old. Jim was born to the late Luther O. and Marion C. (Garnett) Durbin on September 17, 1938 in San Diego, CA. Jim proudly served his country during the Vietnam War with the United States Army and continued to serve in the Army Reserve and National Guard for a total of 24 years. Jim was a graduate of SVSU where he earned a Bachelor of Business Administration and worked as an accountant for Saginaw County Community Mental Health Authority until his retirement in 2000. He was also on the board of directors for Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Saginaw County and Emmaus House for which he was very proud. Jim was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Father Nouvel Council #4232 where he earned his 4th Degree. Jim enjoyed doing Income Taxes for many people during tax season, opening his own business in 1983. Jim will always be remembered for his compassion, generosity, and never- ending love for his family. He made everyone feel welcome no matter who they were.
Jim married the love of life, Palma M. DiCeglie on August 19, 1961 in Saginaw, MI. She survives him. Surviving besides his wife are his children: Angela (David) Carpenter of Grand Forks, ND, Patricia Gebhard of Antioch, IL, Mary (Joseph) Coroa of Saginaw, MI, and James (Mary) Durbin of Bay City, MI. Nine grandchildren: Elaan M. (David) Kurhenko, Andrea L.M. (Greg) Nelson, Forrest M. Fox, Amanda M. (Seth) Ashby, Anthony D.J. Gebhard, Thomas C. Durbin, Michael J. Durbin, David P. Carpenter, and Joseph L. Durbin. Five great grandchildren: Matthew Nelson, Abigail Nelson, Brooke Nelson, Kaitlyn Nelson and Silas Ashby. Two sisters; Patricia Lake and Kathleen Frazier both of CA.
Jim was preceded in death by his sisters: Barbara McCoy, Diane Siweck (his twin) and Maureen Nelson and his brother, Thomas Durbin who gave his life in Vietnam.
The family would like to thank the entire Care Team Hospice staff. Their wonderful and compassionate care of Jim will eternally be appreciated.
