James C. Billions, 91, went to his heavenly reward on Sunday, October 22, 2017, at Crestwood Hospital surrounded by loving family. James was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 56 years, Novella Stafford Billions, his parents James Nathan Billions and Jewel Naomi Allen Billions, and his sister Ramona Tanner.
He is survived by two brothers Dean Billions of Ardmore and Gary and wife Susan Billions of Arkansas. He is also survived by brother-in-law Joe Stafford and wife Mike Stafford, and numerous and very special nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws. James was born in Ardmore, Giles County, Tennessee but lived most of his early life in Hazel Green,
Alabama. He led a varied and interesting life. He served in the during WWII leaving Pearl Harbor on a battleship headed to Japan when the war was thankfully ended. After returning home he worked for General Motors in Detroit and married Novella Stafford in 1950 after she was discharged from the U.S. Air Force, making Detroit their home at that time. They eventually returned to Sweet Home Alabama where he worked for NASA while Novella continued her education and worked with the Department of the Army at Redstone Arsenal in missile research and development. James eventually retired from Chrysler Corporation and then devoted his time to caring for his family. They enjoyed their Guntersville lake home and spent a lot of time boating and fishing. James got his most enjoyment from doting on family. He was an unwavering caregiver, a special uncle to many, and had a particular joy and care for the young nieces and nephews he loved. He will always be remembered for his immediate family would like to especially thank the Crestwood Hospital Second Floor nurses and doctors, especially Dr. Akram Haggag for their care.
