James C. Winningham, 86, of Muncie, passed away on March 21, 2020 at Summit Health and Living. He was born on June 18, 1933 to Barney and Hattie Winningham in Fentress County, Tennessee, but resided most of his life in Muncie.

He served his country as a Corporal in the United States Army.

He worked for Delco Battery of General Motors, and retired after more than 30 years of service. He also owned and operated Jim’s Lawnmower Repair following his retirement in the 80’s.

James loved to ride his motorcycle, was a dedicated charter member of Gloryland United Baptist church where he taught Sunday School and was the Clerk Treasurer. James loved to sing and play his guitar at church. He spent his life sharing his love for Christ and being a servant for the Lord. He loved to spend time with his family and play with his grandchildren. James was always prepared to help anyone in need.

He is survived by his loving sweetheart for over 48 years, Phyllis (Waters) Winningham; children, Pamela Scharsch and Jamie Winningham; grandchildren, Joy McDonald, Jeremy Parrish, Jason Parrish, and Austin Beatrice; and great-grandchildren, Sydney, Wilson, Jackson, Phoenix, and Conner. Also surviving is his sister, Bessie Cooper of Jamestown, TN; special niece, Jacinna Salyers, and several other nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Nancy Hay; and siblings, Kathy Winningham, Betty Clark, and Casto Winningham.
