James C. Turner, 74, of Jacksonville, died Wednesday, April 7, 2010, at Passavant Area Hospital.
He was born May 4, 1935, in Louisiana, MO, the son of James Edward and Willetta Jenetta Smith Turner. He married Leoma Shannon and she preceded him in death. He then married Willie Sims on May 28, 1993 in Jacksonville and she survives. He is also survived by one son, James C.,Jr. (Lodene) Turner of Denver, CO; one daughter, Connie (Keith) Sloan of Cincinnati, OH; four step-daughters, Marilyn (Darryl) Goss of Gaithersburg, MD, Bertha Johnson of Indianapolis, IN, Barbara Ward and Furleasea (Alexander) Williams, both of Jacksonville; eight grandchildren, Shalaun, Brandon, Larry, Jr., Jamie Lee, Ricco, Angel, Mary and A’lea; six step-grandchildren, LaShawna, Derrick, Terrance, Nickolas, Wesley and John; two great-grandchildren, Ariana and Tavion; and one sister, Nancy Colvard of Cincinnati, OH. He was preceded in death by three children Cynthia Williams, Larry “Pete” Turner and Ronnie Turner; and one sister, Betty Berneice Turner.
Mr. Turner was a member of Mt. Emory Baptist Church, where he served on the Board of Deacons. He was also a member of St. John’s Lodge F & A.M. He enjoyed riding his bicycle and watching baseball.
