James Carson Schlosser, 94, died Friday, March 29, 2019, at St. Francis Hospital, Indianapolis.

He was born July 29, 1924, at Garrett, to Carson and Mildred (Arning) Schlosser. In 1954, he married Rebecca (Mason) Schlosser. She preceded him in death. In 2003, he married Joann (Morgan) Schlosser, who survives.

Schlosser volunteered to serve as a Marine at age 18 and served in World War II. He participated with pride in the American Legion Honor Guard until age 90.

He entered Michigan State University on the GI bill, completing undergraduate and graduate work in veterinary science. He was a veterinarian in large and small animal practice for over 20 years and also served as a federal meat inspector for over 20 years.

His life’s passions were family, faith, Michigan State football and basketball and travel. He was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church, Crawfordsville, where he sang in the choir. Schlosser was generous to many causes including the Southern Poverty Law Center, United Negro College Fund, Planned Parenthood Federation of America, many Native American reservations, Emily’s List, the Boy Scouts of America, the Democrat National Party and the Animal Welfare League of Montgomery County.

Schlosser belonged to the American Legion, VFW, Masons, Murat Shrine, Eagles, Elks, Moose, Phi Kappa Tau.

Along with his second wife, he’s survived by daughters, Daun (David) Miller, Denise (Scott) Aldrich, Lori (Bill) Servies, Kris (Gary) Denhart and Charlotte (Richard) Cox; grandchildren, Amanda Schlosser, Matt and Jeff (Nicki) Mcfarland, Carson Hooley, Caitlin (Eric) Aue, Leslie (Mike) Rowland, Nicoletta (Kevin) Wilhoite, Christopher (Andy) Cox, Leslie (Tim) Stasiek, Shannon (Derrik) Edwards, Morgan (Jerad) Smith , Lindsy (John) Green; and several great-grandchildren.

In addition, he is survived by brother Ned (Connie) Schlosser; sister Mary Lou Powell; and many beloved nieces and nephews. Along with Schlosser’s parents and his first wife, he was preceded in death by son Stephen James Schlosser; sister Jean Miller; son-in-law W. Michael Hooley; and sister-in-law Euleta Dowell.
