Mr. Mitchell peacefully passed away at his residence in San Diego, CA. He is the husband of Bertha Mitchell and the father of James C. Mitchell, Jr. and Carolyn Blalock.

James Charles Mitchell, Senior was born on May 29, 1933 to Jimmie Mitchell and Margie Mitchell of Dublin, GA. He was the middle child of six children. He was raised by his parents to be a hard worker. With an early desire to serve his country, he joined the U.S. Navy and later relocated to San Diego, CA. He dedicated several years of his life to serving his country.
To his closest friends, James was affectionately known as “Mitch.” He was a very sociable person. He loved to share his knowledge and wisdom with others. He also loved to give his best advice. He loved to laugh and smile and had a good sense of humor. He also enjoyed telling detailed stories of his life.
One of his favorite places in San Diego was Chollas Lake Park. He would often walk four miles a day around the lake while having good laughs and conversations with others. It was at this lake where he met two celebrities, Ben Vereen and Mohammad Ali. He was featured in the Voice and Viewpoint Newspaper of San Diego with a photo of him and the celebrities.
On May 7, 2014, James was peacefully called home to rest with the Lord. He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Bertha L. Mitchell; his son, James Mitchell, Jr. , his daughter, Carolyn Blaylock of Atlanta, GA; two brothers, Johnny Mitchell and Prentice Mitchell of Ozark, AL; his grandson, Amir Blaylock of Atlanta, GA; sisters-in-law, and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.
