In my Father’s house are many
mansions: if it were not so, I
would have told you. I go to
prepare a place for you.
And if I go and prepare a place for
you, I will come again and receive
you unto myself; that where I am,
there ye may be also.
JOHN 14:2-3

It is with great sadness that we announce that our beloved patriarch, James Calvin Hunter, 93, of 2318 Glascock St., passed away on Saturday, February 3, 2007 at WakeMed Hospital. He was the last son from the union of Charlie and Lizzie Hunter.

James was a very loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, brother and uncle. He was a master carpenter — a former employee of the J.W. York and Flythe construction companies for many years. He not only loved hunting and fishing, but was a skilled farmer and expert gardener — raising various grain crops and seasonal gardens which he very often and very graciously shared with his many relatives and friends. He was a long-time member of St. Matthew Baptist Church, which he joined at an early age.

James was preceded in death by 11 siblings, which included brothers, sisters, half brothers and half sisters. He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 69 years, Maude Young Hunter; sons, Joseph Lee Hunter, Eugene Hunter, James Arthur Hunter (Peggy), William Earl Hunter and Louis Hunter, all of Raleigh; daughters, Betty Hunter Baker and Yvonne Hunter Sanders (Robert), all of Raleigh; a half sister, Lillie Gatling of Raleigh; sisters-in- law, Bernice Hunter, Joan Hunter, Katie Hunter, Lucy Mae Hunter and Eloise Young, all of Raleigh; grandchildren, Natalie, Vonda, Pamela, Michelle, Valerie, Angela, Louis, Danielle and David. He is also survived by several great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and a host of other relatives and friends. Also cherishing his memory and the many happy days that they spent together is Minister Bobby Ann Gaye, his dedicated and God sent caregiver from Southeastern Health Care.
