Passed away Monday, April 11, 2016 at the age of 69. He was born January 4, 1947 in Kalamazoo to the late James and Ethel (Pettit) Chance, Sr. Jim was united in marriage to Jacqueline “Jackie” Sauer on May 23, 1970. He served in the U.S. Air Force from May of 1966 until honorably discharged in March of 1970. Jim served as a Deputy Sheriff with the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Department from 1973 – 2000. As a deputy, he was a member of the honor guard and the crime scene unit. He was a longtime member of the Fraternal Order of Police. When Jim had spare time, he loved to fish and hunt.
Jim is survived by his wife of 45 years, Jackie Chance; his son, Jerry Chance; and several cousins.
